Horizons 1 & 2 are classes for children with autism. Horizons 1 is an intervention, preschool class and Horizons 2 is a class for children of a school going age. Each class has 1 teacher and 2 SNA’s and caters for 6 children.
We aim to provide a caring and nurturing environment for the children and to meet children’s individual needs. We place an emphasis on including the children in Horizons in normal, everyday activities while balancing the need for specialist individual and small group learning activities.
The classes opened in September 2015. Classrooms were refurbished to cater specifically for the children with autism using monies granted by the Department of Education and Skills. The development of Horizons is just the beginning and we hope to add to the resources available. We are planning to develop our sensory room and to build a sensory garden in the near future. It is envisaged that the resources and expertise that come with opening Horizons will extend to reach and every child attending Holy Family.
